Obituary for C. Dean Barnett
Coral Dean Barnett, age 96, of Murphysboro, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:40 p.m. at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Dean was born on April 1, 1926 in Murphysboro, a son of John Gilbert and Martha Elizabeth (McCoy) Barnett. He was united in marriage to Elbina Geraldine Herring on April 22, 1952 in Nashville, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2004 after 52 years of marriage. Dean was a very hardworking man working for over sixty years as an iron worker. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #395. Dean was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Murphysboro and enjoyed gardening and playing cards, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Caroldean Sparks of Pana, Bob (Rose) Barnett of Raleigh, Brenda (Gary) Huppert of Murphysboro, John (Lawana) Barnett of Zeigler, Gary (Chae) Barnett of Thomson, Georgia, Kanocha (Jay) Coleman of Johnston City, Stacy Barnett of Murphysboro and Coral Diane (Carlos) Cerrato of Murphysboro. Dean was also loved by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Elbina Barnett; three daughters, Janie Barnett, Geraldean Roedersheimer and Elbina Gay Grace; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Abundant Life Fellowship in Mursphyboro on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jim Easton officiating. Interment will follow in Murdale Gardens of Memory. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Abundant Life Fellowship.
