He was one of nine children but was said he was the favorite
He was the oldest child and was the overseer of his fathers plantation in TN and was also the first to marry. When he married he was given 300 acres from his fathers plantation and built them a beautiful three story mansion. They named this property Oak Hall.
Tragedy struck in 1851 when Samuel dropped dead at his grandmothers funeral. He was only 28. The doctor said his heart just gave out. Samuel's father suggested Lucy marry her brother-in-law Frank.
