Helen Frances Brown Clemmer, of Midland, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 following a massive heart attack, one week before her 83rd birthday.

She was born May 22, 1922, to Crockett Hall Brown and Luzerna Alice Caldwell Brown in Baylor County, Texas, and was raised and educated in Munday, Texas. On December 26, 1940, she married Dale Clemmer in Mangum, Oklahoma.

In over six decades of service to the Methodist Church, Helen served in almost every capacity possible. She has preached, visited, cared for the sick and bereaved, taught, and was the leader in most places of responsibility. Helen was in the groundbreaking first class of lay ministers to graduate from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas in 1972. She was consecrated as a lay minister in the same service of worship in which her oldest son Dick was ordained as a pastoral minister in the Methodist Church. For the next 17 years she served as director of Christian Education at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland. After retirement, Helen continued her service to the church, teaching and serving faithfully until the last days of her life.

Helen was also an accomplished painter and writer, whose oil paintings and artistic gifts were treasured by friends and family alike.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Crockett and Zerna Brown; by her sisters, Lena Owen and Louise Hamilton; by her brothers, Frank and Bill Brown; and her son, Dick L. Clemmer.

Helen is survived by her husband, Dale Clemmer of Midland, TX; three sons, Ronnie D. Clemmer of Encino, CA; Terry L. Clemmer and his wife, Bonnie, of Midland, TX; Greg D. Clemmer and his wife, Kay, of Houston, TX; and seven grandchildren: Shanna Palmer of Albuquerque, NM; Grantt C Clemmer of Pawleys Island, SC; Matthew Clemmer of Santa Monica, CA; Tyson and Travis Clemmer of Midland, TX; April Jones of Conroe, TX; and Casey Clemmer of Houston, TX; and two brothers, John Brown of Iowa Park, TX; and Gene Brown of Munday, TX.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tyson Clemmer, Travis Clemmer, Matt Clemmer, Grantt Clemmer, Casey Clemmer and Heath Jones.
