Ocala, FL – James "Jim" Bruce Pruitt Jr, age 66, of Ocala, FL , passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 14, 2017.  He was born in Ocala, FL, on August 19, 1951 to James B. Pruitt and Anne Rae T. Pruitt.

He lived in Gainesville and Micanopy before moving back to Ocala in 1997.  Jim graduated from P.K. Yonge Laboratory School and Santa Fe Community College.  He also attended the University of Florida. 

Jim was the foreman of a van conversions company following high school.  He then worked as a surveyor, building MRI equipment at Synergetics, at ABC Research in Gainesville, and most recently at Florida Pest Control for 18 years.  Jim enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, traveling, woodworking, gardening, watching Gator games, reading, history, fishing, hunting, playing volleyball and chess, boating, and riding his many motorcycles.  He loved music especially classic rock and traditional hymns. 

Jim served as worship leader at the First Baptist Church in Micanopy.  He led church youth groups, taught adult Sunday school, and coached Little League.  Jim was a member of the AMA, the NRA, and Big Scrub Trail Riders.  Jim was a loving husband, beloved father and playful grandfather.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 20 years, Doris E. Pruitt; son, Christopher Lee Pruitt of Ocala, FL; daughters, Jennifer Ann Philman (Chris) of Trenton, FL, and Lindsey Rae Johns (Christopher "CJ") of Chiefland, FL; stepsons, William "Bill" Wayte (Shelly) of Live Oak, FL, and Gregory Wayte (Tiffany) of Sanford, FL; and brother Lee Pruitt (Kristina); and 10 grandchildren, Hayden, Avery, and William Philman, Payton, Cayson, and Raelynn Johns, Andrew Wayte; Micah and Mackenzie Wayte; and Aidan Rabold.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy.

Funeral services will be held at Micanopy Christian Fellowship, Micanopy, FL, at 3 pm on October 21, 2017 with Pastor Wayne Butler officiating. The burial will be at the Micanopy Historic Cemetery following the service.
