Samuel W. Lynn was born about 1863 in Iowa. He was the son of James Lynn and Melorah Cook. In 1870, the family lived in Sherman, Montgomery County, IA. The family was living in Kiowa, Barber County, KS, in 1880.

Samuel married Mary Winter/s at the home of Mary's mother in Raton, New Mexico, in July of 1890. Children of Samuel W. and Melorah were:

In September of 1906, he was fatally injured when a horse fell on him after he was thrown from the horse. He died the following evening at his mother's home in Raton, NM. Mr. Lynn was 44 years of age. He was survived by his wife and six children. Samuel was living in Chico Springs, NM, at the time of his death.

Samuel's wife remarried after his death. Records show her name as Mary Riggins in 1920 (Census: Gallup, NM). Samuel and Mary's daughter, Rose Hecq, and grandson, Melvin Hecq, were living in home. By 1925, Mary was living in Denver, CO. Her name was Mary Havens (U.S. Directories; Dewey Samuel Lynn's WWII Draft Registration). The 1930 Census (Denver) recorded her marital status as divorced.
