Leland Dale Bickford, 79, Pahrump, Nevada, formerly of Topeka, passed away on Feb. 18, 2015. He was born on Apr. 19, 1935 in Soldier, the son of Roy and Nellie Cappen Bickford. He grew up in the Soldier and Holton communities and graduated from Holton High School with the class of 1954. Mr. Bickford served in the Kansas National Guard for many years and was honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant. He retired in 1990 from Santa Fe Railway as a mechanical superintendent after 35 years of service. He enjoyed many years of retirement and spending time with his beloved family. He was blessed in marriage to Carolyn Robinson at Holton, Kansas in 1957. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Randy (Mary) Bickford, Topeka, and Bruce (Tracy) Bickford, Henderson, Nevada; three grandchildren, Ashley Schmidt, Bryan Bickford, and Jake Bickford and one great-grandson, Beckham Schmidt; two brothers Kenny and Leo Bickford, both of Holton and sister, Betty Mayo, Filer, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings; LeRoy, Wendell, Clifford, and Darrell Bickford and sisters, Opal Davis, Arlene Nott, Doris Redding, Barbara Hughes and Janicesue Stewart. Lee Funeral Home in Pahrump, Nevada are handling arrangements. No formal services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the American Lung Association.
