Deceased: Pauline M. Williams; Date: October 6, 2004
NORFOLK - Pauline Elizabeth Murphy Williams, 91, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and sister, went to be with her Lord on Oct. 4, 2004. She passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 5, 1912, in Princess Anne County, and lived most of her life in Norfolk.
She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Lavinia Murphy; her father, Sandy Washington Murphy; and her two daughters, Sondra Scarborough and Sharon Beasley.
Mrs. Williams was an accomplished artist and writer. She had several stories published in Reminisce Magazine and her artwork was displayed in several local arts shows and hang in many prestigious doctors' offices as well as many friend's and relatives homes. She studied art under Bertha Fanning Taylor, who was a famous Norfolk artist. Although she had been writing stories and poems since childhood; she didn't discover her talent for art until her fifties.
She was a devoted member of Calvary Temple Church for 40 years, where she taught Sunday school for 15 of those years.
She met her one and only sweetheart in 1932; and after a four-year courtship, they were married June 26, 1936. They were together for 72 years, and remained sweethearts until the Lord called her home.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, Robert P. Williams. She also leaves behind her six grandchildren, Robin Evans and husband Lonnie of Norfolk, Carlton Floyd and wife Jan of Bonaire, Ga., Thomas "Marty" Wilkins and wife Kathy of Chesapeake, Andrew Floyd of Macon, Ga., Timothy Floyd of Gordon, Ga., and Patrick Floyd and wife Carol of Juliette, Ga.; 10 great-grandchildren, Michael Holland, Jessica, Kyle and Caleb Floyd, James Wilkins, Ashley and Earl Floyd, Amanda and Andrea Floyd and Evan Floyd; one great-great-grandchild, Sadie Floyd; two sisters, Leona Tatem and husband Otis of Virginia Beach and Joycelyn Murphy of Norfolk; two brothers, Williard Murphy and wife Kathleen of Norfolk and Alvin Murphy and wife Sarah of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to express their gratitude to Heartland Home Hospice for their great care and support which allowed her to be home with her family during her last days.
A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Calvary Temple church by the Rev. Lamar Sentell with burial to follow in Charity Cemetery. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. "
