Dagiel was born September 5, 1933 in Bienville, LA and passed away January 23, 2022 at his home in Jamestown, LA. He was retired from working as a driller off shore after 33 years. Dagiel loved to hang out at Byrd's Store in Castor and visit with everyone. He loved to hunt, fish and be outdoors. Spending time with his family and loved ones was his favorite thing to do. Dagiel looked forward each year to the family trip to the beach with most of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Mangrum Mathews and Mollie Rowell Mathews; son, Steve Mathews; son-in-law, Brandon Huckaby; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debbie Mathews; daughters, Debra Byrd, Gail Myers, Mollie Huckaby and Amanda Mathews; sons, Mickey Mathews and wife, Melissa, Dagiel Mathews, Jr., Mangrum Mathews and wife, Stephanie, and Langrum Mathews and wife, Crystal; stepson, Charlie Wes Henderson; "Adopted" son, James Chavis and wife, Connie; sister, Mattie Weiss; 21 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Harm Williams, Eddie Morgan, Jackie Mathews, Jessie DuBois, Jordan Lyday and John Bamburg. Honorary pallbearers will be John Mathews and Donnie Williams.
