Nathan Hobson Dead

Passes Away After a Two Days' Illness - Funeral at Dillon

Tuesday night at eight o'clock the body of Nathan Hobson was brought to Dillon from his home sixteen miles northwest of Wisdom in the Big Hole basin. He died of inflammation of the bowels after an illness of two days. Saturday afternoon Dr. Kingsbury received a message to go at once to the home of Mr. Hobson as he was very ill. Before the doctor arrived at the ranch he was informed that the sick man was dead. The remains were placed in a wagon and started for Dillon, ninety miles away. The party left the ranch with the corpse at eleven o'clock Sunday night and arrived in Dillon ag eight o'clock Monday night - making the drive in twenty-one hours. The horses were changed three times. Messrs. Smith and Duncan brought the remains and Virgil Dunbar came a little later with Mrs. Hobson and her child. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Clowes. The interment was made in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Hobson was in Dillon a little more than a week ago and was apparently in perfect health.

Nathan Hobson was 53 years of age at the time of his death. He was a native of Ohio but had resided in this county for about 20 years. He lived in Utah for a time before coming to Montana. Before he engaged in ranching he conducted a freighting business. His first farming venture was on the bench about eight miles north of Dillon. Several years ago he sold his ranch and bought a stock ranch in Big Hole basin, where he has since resided. In 1886 he married Miss Ella Grate, of Dillon. One child was the issue of the marriage.

The deceased was regarded as one of the most upright citizens of the county and was held in high esteem by many friends. The widow and fatherless children have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in Beaverhead county and in Big Hole basin.
