He was married on October 23, 1926 in Williamson County, Tennessee to Mary Elizabeth Davis (1909–1990), the daughter of Oriegon Morrow Davis (1872–1922) and Rufus "Catherine" (Bruce) Davis (1878–1929).
A fireman for L&N Railroad and living at 2808 Landers Avenue in Nashville, Davidson County, William was 57 years old, married and had Rheumatoid arthritis when he had a heart attack and died as Mid-State Baptist Hospital on May 7, 1963.
Survivors included his widow Mary in Nashville, daughter Frances (Jones) Davis and her husband W C Davis Jr of Cookeville, Tennessee, five granddaughters, her father Poney Jones, brothers A L Jones of Louisville, Kentucky, F D Jones, L B Jones and Thomas Jones in Nashville and sister Mrs Odell Callis of Nashville.
Funeral Services were held on May 9th with Ellis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements, and burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
