John Melvin Anderson (1946-2001) died of complications from COVID-19 on December 8, 2021, at the age of 75.
John was born September 12, 1946, in Winona, Minnesota. Adopted by Melvin and Alice Anderson as a young boy, John grew up in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, and graduated from Ellsworth High School in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. John earned his Associates Degree in baking at Dunwoody College in Minneapolis.
John became the lead baker at the esteemed Emily's Bakery of Hastings, Minnesota. For 30 years, John managed the daily production of cakes, pastries and breads for the Hastings community. After a hiatus from Emily's to pursue a sales career, John came back to Emily's until his retirement.
John was committed to faith and outreach. John was the leader on multiple mission trips through Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Hastings. Through his empathic approach, John was a positive role model to the Hastings youth.
Mr. Anderson was a collector of Loons, the state bird of Minnesota. And if you had a hobby of interest, John would make note and collect everything about it for you.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Melvin Anderson; sisters, Inez Hauschildt, Genevieve Johnson and Norma Stelle; brother, Glen Welty; his birth parents Clarence and Ada Wilson; and biological sister, Shirley Troutman.
He is survived by daughter, Karianne; son-in-law, Benjamin; and granddaughter, Clarke Picht; sister, Pat Lunde; and biological siblings, Gene Wilson, Ruth Adair and Barb Huggins.
A Celebration of Life Service for John will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th St. in Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.
