Ivah Mae Shumate Stewart, daughter of Joe and Maudie Elsie Vaughn Shumate, was born February 3, 1939, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, August 27, 2021, in Maryland Heights, Missouri at the age of eighty-two.
In February of 1962, she was united in marriage to Ernie Lee Stewart, and to this union one son and one daughter were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Joe Frank; her five brothers, Paul, Russell Wayne, Joe Bill, Fred, and Billy Shumate; her three sisters, Virginia Adkins, Irene Morgan, and Alice Hahn; her three stepsisters, Doris Shumate, Bonnie Cline and Patsy Brown; and her stepbrother, Buddy Terry.
Ivah is survived by her husband, Ernie Stewart; her daughter, Gina Jarvis, and her husband, Joshua, of St. Charles, Missouri; two grandchildren, Michael, and Penelope Jarvis; one brother, John Shumate, and his wife, Nondis, of Lebanon, Missouri; her sister, Kathryn Wimberly, of Lebanon, Missouri; many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a host of other relatives and friends who she loved very much.
She was born and raised in the Lebanon community. She lived most of her adult life in Lebanon and in 2015 moved to O'Fallon, Missouri with her husband, Ernie, to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. She was a devoted homemaker to her family through the years and worked for many years at the H. D. Lee Company and B & D Truck Port. She enjoyed spending time with her large extended family just visiting and playing games. She also enjoyed reading, doing puzzle books, playing Bingo, and watching crime dramas on television. Her favorite things were coffee, Mountain Dew, biscuits and gravy and cookies. Everyone who knew her has many fond memories of her and how she was always there for her family and friends when they needed her. As we celebrate her life and her love for all of us let us cherish the wonderful memories she created.
