William is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Verda (Miller) Bills, son-in-law Ricky Belk of Boyle, daughters Deonna (Kelly) Hall of Water Valley, Beverly Bills of Jackson, Lisa (David) Terrell of Raymond; and son Gregg (Dee) Bills of Cleveland. He also leaves his dear sister, Mary Floetta Brindley, six grandsons, one granddaughter, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He loved them all dearly.
William was born August 6, 1930, to Ollie E. and Viola (Lindsey) Bills. The family moved to the Mississippi Delta when William was about 10. They were sharecroppers and then tenant farmers. From his earliest childhood days, he was enthralled with the automobile, and cars were his life's work. He worked as a "body man" at Delta Chevrolet for 15 years, then founded Bills Body Shop in 1972. He worked there well after "retirement", right up to his recent final illness. He had no hobbies: the shop was his hobby. That said, it allowed him to engage in his favorite pastime other than work: connecting with his family, employees, and customers. He never met a stranger, and never failed to find a connection over a car or a mutual acquaintance. We will miss his one-of-a kind laugh, and we will even miss him "messing" with us every chance he got.
A celebration of William's life and legacy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Ruleville Baptist Church, with burial afterward at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville. Visitation will be held at the church, one hour prior to services.
