Jimmy Wayne Roberts, age 80, of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, November 18th at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Florence. Born in Sparta, Kentucky on January 11, 1941, Jimmy was the son of the late Wallace James and Dora Elizabeth Beach Roberts. Jimmy was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served our country in the National Guard. He was member of the Ten Mile Baptist Church. Jimmy was a tobacco and cattle farmer all his life. He also worked for Coca-Cola Distribution and drove the "Coke Truck" for many years.
He was a member of the 1959 Gallatin County Wildcat Basketball Team, coached by Jock Sutherland, the only boys basketball team from Gallatin County to play in the State Tournament. Always athletic, Jimmy played softball until he was 55 years old. He was an avid sports fan. Jimmy was a supporter of the University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball team. He also enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds. His greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail Lea Black Roberts; his son, Jimmy Wayne (Christy) Roberts, II, Dry Ridge; three daughters: Karla (Nate) Dossett, Warsaw; Holly Roberts, Warsaw; and Jennifer (Derrik) Moeves, Ft. Thomas. Also left to mourn his passing are two brothers: Melvin (Dona) Roberts, Independence and Donnie (Barb) Roberts, Illinois and eleven grandchildren.
Services will be held at Garnett-New Funeral Home 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 27th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Saturday until time of Service. Burial will be in the Napoleon Cemetery.
