Alice Anderson Rites Set Today
Funeral services are scheduled today (Friday May 3) in the Grover Ward Chapel for Alice C. Anderson, 72, wife of David Anderson, who died Tuesday, after being hospitalized for two weeks with a lung ailment. She followed her husband in death by six days, without ever knowing he had passed away.
The services will be conducted by Counselor Ivan L. Roberts, of the Afton Second Ward Bishopric. The Anderson's were members of the Second Ward but lived in Grover most of their lives.
ALICE C. ANDERSON
Alice Crawshaw Anderson was born April 27, 1885, at Wellsville, Utah. She was a daughter of Robert Crawshaw and Jane Ambroisa Reeder.
Her mother was the second wife in a polygamous family and her early life was spent on a farm to make a living.
At the age of seventeen her father died, making it necessary for her to get employment to help support the family.
She enrolled in a sewing school at Logan, traveling from Wellsville to Logan every day by horse and buggy to attend classes.
After completing this school she went to live with her sister (Elizabeth Lofegreen) in Ogden. She secured employment there in one of the larger stores as a seamstress altering suits and furs.
Her folks moved to Hyrum at this time and on one visit home she met David Anderson whom she later married.
After the marriage in the Logan Temple they put their possession on a wagon and came to Star Valley to make their home.
Here she worked on the farm and did sewing for the neighbors as well as raising a family of seven children. She was very active in the church serving in the presidency of the Mutual, taking part in dramas, giving monologue and dialogue readings on many occasions.
She served in the religion class and later was made president of Primary, where she served for eight years. In later years she served 12 years in the presidency of the Relief Society. she was also a teacher in the Sunday School for many years.
She loved music and was a member of the choir for many years.
She died April 30 at the Star Valley Hospital of a lung ailment. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 3 in the Grover Ward Chapel with the Afton Second Ward Bishopric in charge.
Surviving members of Mr and Mrs Anderson's family include a son, Floyd Anderson, Mt. Eagle, Calif.; and three daughters, Mrs H.K.(Khadra) Cranney, Auburn; Mrs Louis (Nina) Taggart, of Smoot; and Mrs Earl (Delpha) Hill, Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mr Anderson had two brothers, Borgan Anderson, Hyrum, Utah and Alma Anderson Ogden, Utah; one sister Lottie A. Kimball, Salt Lake City.
Mrs Anderson is survived by one brother Levi Crawshaw of Hyrum and one sister Elizabeth Lofegreen of Ogden, Utah.
