James Jasper Chambers was born on November 25, 1842 in Nashport, Ohio, and listed as a 7 year old in the 1850 Muskingum County Ohio census. He enlisted on June 17, 1861 in Company B of the 3rd Ohio Infantry and was captured at Battle of Cemetery Ridge. In 1870 "Jas J Chambers 27 laborer Ohio, Jane 24 housekeeper, Cora 3 and Anna 1, Dennison Ohio." He died of chronic myocarditis and said to have fallen "over dead on February 14, 1927, while visiting his sister in Chico California." He had been listed on the 1920 census of Ware County Georgia.

He was invalided per application on July 6, 1891 in Alabama.
The Chico Daily Enterprise, Chico, CA, Monday Evening, February 14, 1927: "James Chambers, War Veteran, Dies. James Jaspar Chambers, 84, a Civil War veteran and native of Ohio, died at 10 o'clock this morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. [line missing, however, it would have been Sarah Isabel (Chambers) Bisset], Spruce street.
"Chambers was a member of the G.A.R., having served through the Civil War in Company B, 3rd Ohio Infantry. He had been in Chico one month.
"Surviving, besides the sister, are three sons -- Stanley of Alhambra; Fred E. of Macon, GA; and Jaspar W. Chambers of East St. Louis, IL; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Douglas of Portland, and 18 grandchildren.
"Funeral services, which are in charge of the Westfall funeral home, re being held in abeyance pending word from relatives in the East."
He was interred on February 17, 1927 per Chico Cemetery records.
