Daughter of Captain William Henry Cousins, distinguished veteran of the War of 1812 and his wife Martha Robinson, daughter of Reverend Peter Robinson and his wife Nancy Thompson of Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Martha Elizabeth "Bettie" Cousins married James Boisseau on 25 February 1860 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. They made their home at "Cedar Lane" located in Dinwiddie County, just a short distance south of Five Forks Civil War battlefield. They are buried there along with other members of their family. Judge James and Bettie Cousins had four known BOISSEAU children: Sterling, born @1862; Ada Cousins, married a Barksdale; Emma Robinson, married Abraham Bruner; Preston H., born @1873.
Martha Elizabeth "Bettie" Boisseau died at the home of her son-in-law Abraham Bruner in Roanoke on 31 January 1906. Judge James Boisseau died in 1872 and his wife, Bettie, was still living in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, in 1880, as she was enumerated in the 1880 Federal Census of that county. In the 1900 Federal Census of Cherokee County, South Carolina, Bettie Boisseau was living with her son-in-law and daughter Abraham and Emma (Boisseau) Bruner. Her obituary is attached to this memorial which confirms burial at "Cedar Lane", the Boisseau family burying ground.
