Funeral rites were conducted by the Rev. William B. Kline of the First Congregational church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. Jeannie Whitla, the services being at the Berge-Thenhaus-Howser-Swoboda Home for Funerals. Mrs. Whitla died Sunday night at the Masonic home in Plattsmouth. Burial was in Prospect Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Whitla was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Jan. 22, 1877. She came to America at the age of 18 years, and went to Bassett, Neb. She was married to Webster Whitla, Jan 24, 1900, at Battle Creek. They had always lived in Nebraska, Norfolk, Battle Creek, and Long Pine.
Mr. Whitla preceded Mrs. Whitla in death Feb 2, 1940. Their only daughter, Mrs. Lyle J. Phifer, Arnold, survives. Two grandchildren, Eugene, and Nona, and a half brother of Mrs. Whitla, who lives in Scotland, also survives.
Pallbearers were George and Howard Stirk, August Volk, William Luebcke, Jack Dufphy and Tim Preece, all of Battle Creek.
