PIONEER DIES IN HUNTSVILLE
Jens Neilsen Operated Blacksmith Shop for 55 years
Jens Neilsen, 78, died at 3:30 o'clock this morning at his home in Huntsville after an illness of six weeks.
Mr. Neilsen had operated a blacksmith shop at Huntsville for 55 years having learned the trade in Denmark.
He was born July 21, 1852, in Omus Skow (Asnes Skov Aarby, Holbaek, Denmark) , Kallenburg, Denmark, where he became a convert to the LDS church, emigrating to Utah in 1875 and settling in Huntsville.
On January 1m, 1877, he married Juliane Peterson at Huntsville. Mr. Neilsen returned to Denmark on a mission January 24, 1896, and remained there two years.
He was a presiding teacher in the church at Huntsville for 11 years and was a high priest. Mr. Neilsen was a prominent member of the Republican party and one of its leaders in Ogden Valley. He attended the constitutional convention at Salt Lake when Utah emerged from a territory into a state.
Mr. Neilsen is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. George A. Burrows, Huntsville; Henry J Nelsen, Arimo, Idaho; Mrs. Carl C. Garff, Ogden; Berletta Cunningham, Ogden; Mrs. H. W. Shurtleff, Ogden; David J. Nelsen,m New York City.
Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services, under direction of Larkin & sons will be announced later.
