Jerry Dale Burgess, 88, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at his home.
He was born Monday, Aug. 28, 1933, in Wharton Creek to Doyle Green and Florence May Steele Burgess.
Jerry married Edna Ruth Evans on Saturday, Aug. 14, 1954 in Huntsville and together they were parents to one daughter and one son. He enjoyed fishing, working on his farm, splitting wood, and helping his neighbors during hay season. Jerry had a great sense of humor and was a true family man. He took great care of his family and their needs. Jerry was known for his strong faith, and big heart.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 40 years, Edna, one son, Roger Burgess; and three siblings, Carroll Burgess, Maxine Mitchell, and Junior Burgess.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dale Dennis of Witter; five grandchildren, Sarena and Eric Higgins of Rogers, Jenna Burgess of Lowell, Hannah Wright of Dayton, Ohio; LaTrisha Dennis of Huntsville, and Taleha Dennis of Huntsville; and five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Aleigha, Elizabeth, Jozelynn, and Alden; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Oct. 19, 2021, at Brashears Funeral Home, Jim Hepler officiated.
Pallbearers were Jim Gulledge, Kendall Drake, Josh Murr, Darrel Wright, Bowdy Ramsey, and Gabe Wight.
Honorary pallbearers were Bud Cline, Paul Vanderpool, Dan White, and Jerry Ledbetter.
Interment immediately followed services at Wharton Creek Cemetery.
