Abbie Martha McNeil, daugher of Cyrus Granville McNeil and Martha Ann Holt McNeil, was born March 24, 1828, in Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts. She first married Alonzo E. Stewart about 1873 and had four children, Rebecca Ann (Reca), Cora Blanche, Johnny, and James. Alonzo, James, and Johnny all died in the Typhoid epidemic in 1879. Abbie then married John Newton Groves May 30, 1882, in Fairview Twp., Stafford County Kansas. They had six children: Jennie May, Pearl Emma, Roy Jacob, Ross Nathan, Sarah Lucy, and Elbie Earl Groves. Abbie died August 11, 1917, in Dodge City, Kansas.
