The spelling of "Neilson" is debatable; Joseph's parents and siblings, Niels, Hyrum, Annie Johanna, and Mary Sophia spell it "Nielsen". His brother John Peter has "Neilsen" on his headstone. (yet John Peter's children spelled it Nielsen.) Technically speaking "son" would indicate of Swedish ancestry, while "sen" was more typical of Danish.

Roosevelt- Funeral services for Joseph Christen Neilson, 66, who died Thursday morning at his home in Bridgeland after a three month illness, will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Bridgeland Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter –day Saints by Bishop Eldon Liddell.

Services were originally scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the Neilson home Saturday evening and Sunday. Burial in Roosevelt Cemetery will be directed by Dillman Funeral Home.

Mr. Neilson, who was Sunday School superintendent of the Antelope Branch and first counselor in the Bridgeland Ward bishopric is survived by his widow, Chastie Letitia Keele Neilson; six sons, Vernal J. Neilson, Arcadia, Utah; Clyde, Vere H, Wilson and Kenneth Neilson, all of Bridgeland; Marvell Neilson, Roosevelt; three daughters, Mrs. Wanless Shields, Arcadia; Mrs. Bert Coleman, Heber City, and Mrs. Glen R. Purdy, Caliente, Nevada, and 31 grandchildren.
