William was the son of David Daniel Cutbirth and Jane Minerva Reed. His father was killed in the Civil War when he was three years of age and his mother passed away when he was twelve years of age. He married Sarah Irene Green in Parker County, Texas on November 24, 1886 at the age of twenty-seven. They had five children, Alfred, Beatrice, Maude, Eugene and Mary. His occupation was repairing windmills. He lived in Quanah for forty-one years and passed away when he was eighty-one.
