JESSE LEE MARTIN, 83, of Duncan, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in Duncan. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Bethel Assembly of God, with Ron Meador and Jesse Ray Martin officiating. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Jesse Lee was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Yancey County, N.C., to Lee Roy and Sallie Randolph Martin. After leaving school, Jesse joined the U.S. Navy on Feb. 25, 1943. He served his tour as a gunner's mate in the Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 6, 1946, as a second class petty officer.
Jesse met Geraldine Sherrill in Duncan while visiting his brother. This meeting resulted in their marriage at Old Fort, N.C., on Nov. 17, 1948. After living in Marion, N.C., until 1949, they moved to Baltimore, Md., where Jesse worked for the G.M. Chevrolet plant until 1953. He returned to Duncan and went to work for Halliburton Services in 1954 as a stall leader in the truck shop, retiring in 1974. He then worked for Duncan Public Schools in the transportation department from 1977 to 1986.
In his later years, he found great pleasure in riding his tractor and taking care of the farm. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Some of his favorite times were having a fish fry and camping at the lake with his family and friends. Jesse attended Bethel Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of the home; two daughters, Gail Clark of Denton, Texas, and Sharon Frame of Oklahoma City; two sons, Jesse Martin of Edmond, and Cecil Martin of the home; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Aaron and Sara Grace of Dallas, Texas, Gregg, Summer and Jessica Frame of Oklahoma City, Jesse Ray Martin of Austin, Texas, Vanessa Martin of Edmond, and Austin Montgomery of Oklahoma; and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Benny Martin, Cecil Martin and Lester Martin; and two sisters, Jane Cecil and Greta Parker.
Bearers will be Lex Clark, and his grandsons, Jeremy Grace, Aaron Grace, Gregg Frame, Jesse Martin and Chris Carnes. Honorary bearers are Wayne Walker, Raymond McSpadden, Howard Cummings, Gerald Morris and Jim Moore.
