William Lester Martin
William Lester Martin, 99 years old, went to be with his Lord on July 4, 2007.
He was born in Beelog, Yancey County, NC on April 13, 1908. He was the second of ten children born to Barnett Leroy Martin and Sara Randolph Martin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lora Randolph Martin.
Mr. Martin was a farmer for most of his life and had a great love for the land and for the mountains where he was born and raised. His family and friends will miss him and his stories of the old ways. He was a good Christian man and he was prepared to meet his maker. May he rest in peace.
Surviving Mr. Martin is a daughter, Kathleen Hendricks of Leicester, N. C. and a son, Danny Martin, of Buncombe County, N. C.; surviving brothers are Asberry Martin of Wilmington, CA and Jesse Martin of Duncan, OK; surviving sisters are Julia Mae Lewis of Marion, N. C. and Louise Oberthorn of Philadelphia, PA.; a large number of nieces and nephews mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Dayton Lewis and wife, of Miller River, Maryland, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box 56066, Charlotte, N. C. 28256-0666.
