Elliott farmed in Stark County until he started work at Caterpillar Inc. on June 13, 1940. He graduated from the two-year machine shop training program in December of 1943. He worked in the East Peoria plant until 1959, when he transferred to become manufacturing manager in Decatur, Ill. Then in 1964, Elliott was moved to York, Pa., as plant manager there. In 1976, Elliott returned to Peoria as plant manager of the East Peoria plant.
He served as a director of Hanna City State Bank and commissioner of the Greater Peoria Airport Authority for several years. He was also commissioner of Brimfield Area Fire District and headed the drive to raise funds for a new firehouse in Kickapoo. Elliott retired from Caterpillar in 1980 following 40 years of service with the company.
On June 19, 1993, he married Betty White Fennell in Chillicothe. Betty preceded him in death in 2000. Elliott then married Lois McWilliams Hedden in Chillicothe on July 28, 2002. She survives.
Also surviving is one sister, Evalyn Williams of Chillicothe.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Breese of Wyoming, Ill.; and one sister, Mildred Rashid of Atkinson, Ill.
Surviving are twin daughters, Jacquelyn (Robert) Flint and Jill (Gary) Gregory and one son, John (Barbara) Breese; by his marriage to Betty, stepdaughters, Betty Jane (Robert) LeQuia, JoAnn (Robert) Kinsella, Jan (Ed) O'Neill, Jeanette (Steve) Marovec, Joyce (Kim) Prisk, Julie (Nick) Panos, and Jill (Damon) McCoy; and stepsons, Robert (Jan) Fennell, John (Diane) Fennell, James (Brenda) Fennell, Jerome (Margaret) Fennell and Jerry (Debbie) Fennell; and by his wife, Lois, stepdaughter, Brenda (James) Fennell; and stepson, Ronald (Paula) Hedden. Elliott is also survived by 52 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
