At 6:00 o'clock Saturday evening, April 9th at the home of his son, C.L.Erhart, 2112 Marshall Street, occurred the death of H.J. Ehrhart. Death was due to heart trouble with which he had suffered for the past year and a half. The funeral services were held from the Baptist church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Mudd of the Free Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. Brownson of the Baptist church, and the remains laid to rest in East Linwood cemetery.
Hiram Jackson Ehrhart was born in Indiana December 23, 1842, making him 66 years, 3 months and 16 days old at the time of his death. He came to Iowa in 1859 and has since made his home in this state. December 21, 1862, he was married to Miss Adelia M. Bentley. In 1866 they came to Boone County and have made their home here since. To them were born five children, Hiram W., Roy W. Harry E., Mamie and Clyde L. The first two have preceded their father in death. Harry E., resides in New York City, Mrs. Mamie Ladd in Gordon, Nebraska and Clyde L., in this city. The widow also survives and makes her home with her son here. For several years he worked for the Northwestern here and then engaged in farming for a time. In 1892 he again took up his residence in Boone and engaged in the work of brick masonry, in which work he continued until obliged by ill health to give up work about eighteen months ago. He had been a patient sufferer and for many days before his death was unconscious, so that he passed away peacefully.
