GRANDY - Darrell Allen MERRELL, 55, of 126 Hunters Ridge Road, Grandy, died Tuesday Jan. 12, 2010 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Currituck County, he was the son of the late St. Elmo "Elmer" and Mrs. Nellie Ferebee MERRELL. He was retired from the Town of Kill Devil Hills, as the Director of Public Services, a member and Past Master of Coinjock Masonic Lodge # 463 AF & AM, an avid hunter and sportsman, Past President and CEO of the Narrow Shores Hunting Lodge and had love for his family, friends and all things of North Carolina. Mr. Merrell is survived by a two daughters, Summer YACOVETTI of Arcadia, Fla., Kelly MERRELL of Kitty Hawk; a son, Kris MERRELL of Aydlett; three sisters, Marie OLD of South Mills, Judy BRICKHOUSE of Southern Shores, Kay LEWIS of Md.; one brother, Michael MERRELL of Grandy; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. on his farm, 126 Hunters Ridge Road, Grandy, with Rev. Steven KING officiating. Masonic Rites will also be held. Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is assisting the family. (The Daily Advance - Friday, January 15, 2010)
