Sr. Augusta Barry on Monday, December 22, 2008, Sr. Augusta Barry died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born (Marilyn Rita Barry) in Zanesville, Oh. on October 20, 1931, to William and Mildred (Stokely) Barry. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1949. Profession of Vows in 1951. Sister served as principal at St. Francis Grade School, Newark, Oh., 1962-68. Sr. Augusta served the Congregation as a General Councilor from 1968 until 1974. Sr. Augusta earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University); an MA in Religious Studies from the University of Dayton; and an MA in Guidance from the Notre Dame University. In the Columbus Diocese, she ministered at St. Gabriel, Columbus, 1954-55; Christ the King, Columbus, 1955-57; and Seton Parish, Pickerington, 1982-84. She also ministered in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Steubenville, Oh. and Chicago, Ill. Sister continued her ministry in education as she served in the role of Associate Director and later tutor at the Dominican Learning Center, Columbus. Other ministries brought Sr. Augusta to serve as Associate Director of SHARE in Columbus, 1984-89; Director of Adair House in Zanesville, 1989-90; a teacher at Muskingum Area Tech College, Zanesville, Oh., 1990-92; and Director of the Springs Press, 2000-08. Sister was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a brother, William of Zanesville; and 2 sisters, Martha Mirgon of Powell and Elise Ann Berkshire of Marion; as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends. The viewing will be in the Motherhouse on Friday, December 26, 2008, from 3-4:30 p.m. A Vigil Service of Remembrance will take place from 4:30-5:30 p.m. that day with wake continuing until 6:30 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
