Son of Josiah Stovall & wife Mary Hicks Stovall. Lewis married Jane Griffin on 01 February 1812 in Lincoln County, Georgia. Lewis wrote his will on 10 November 1824 in Lincoln County. Probate was 24 December 1824. Lewis referred to his "beloved wife" and "beloved children" without naming them, but estate records show that he and Jane had at least five children: Thomas, Amanda, Jane B., Mary and Matilda Stovall.

Division of the estate of Lewis Stovall to the following heirs - "Stephen Stovall in right of his wife, late the widow of Lewis Stovall; William Alba in right of his wife Amanda late Amanda Stovall; Mary Stovall; Matilda Stovall and Thomas Stovall, the latter the children and heirs at law.

After Lewis' death his widow Jane married his cousin Stephen Stovall, again in Lincoln County, Georgia.
