Daughter of James R. & Margaret C. (Petersen) Channer.
She attended school in Boone County and graduated from Albion High School in 1943. She taught school in Platte County for one year before entering nurses training at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. On November 20, 1949 she married Harold Nyffeler at the First Methodist Church in Columbus. They farmed Southwest of Columbus until 1997 when they moved to Prairie Village. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse upon graduating from Platte College in 1969, after which she practiced nursing at Behlen Community Hospital, Columbus Manor, and Columbus Clinic P.C.. Betty enjoyed gardening, needlework, reading, and thoughtful caring for others.
