GASTONIA — William Arnold "Shadow" Ray, 76, of 474 S. King St., died March 20, 1997 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral is 3 p.m. Sunday at South Marietta Street Baptist Church with Rev. John D. Ashworth officiating. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park Visitation is 7-9 pm today at Carothers Funeral Home Gastonia.
A native of Gaston County, Mr. Ray was the son of the late Robert E. and Josie McCurrey Ray. He was a member of South Marietta St. Baptist Church and the Gastonia VFW Post No. 9337. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his first wife Wilma Irene Lovingood Ray.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Earley Ray; daughters, Donna Benfield of Gastonia and Diane Waldrop of Charlotte; step-sons Roger Owens and Doug Owens both of Gastonia; step-daughters, Vickie McDonald of Belmont and Jackie Cape of Gastonia; sisters Wilma Ray Stertz of Topsail Island, N.C. and Betty Ray Schwarzer of Jacksonville, N.C.; 4 grandchildren, LeShea Long, Jeffrey Long, Robby Peoples & Sheldon Peoples.
