Frederick V. Furst, Sr., president of the J.H. Furst Company, printers of scientific and language books for the last half century, at his home, 5109 St. Georges Avenue, in Govans. He was 85. Mr. Furst, who for years was a local authority on choral music, suffered a slight stoke two months ago but apparently had recovered. He was preparing to leave his home to attend church when he was stricken yesterday.

One of eight children of the late Joseph M. Furst, he was born here on March 2, 1868. He was educated at the Immaculate Conception parochial school and Calvert Hall College.

On leaving school he joined two brothers who were in the employ of John H. Murphy, local publisher of religious books. When the Murphy plant was destroyed by the great fire of 1904, Frederick Furst and three of his brothers, John H., John Henry and Joseph, former their own printing business.
