My interest in Frank Heinbuch is as the husband of Ella/Mary Kearns, daughter of Richard Kearns and Sarah Beach (sp?). I found Ella's married surname in the obituary of her father which ran 13 and 14 Feb 1909 in Washington, DC newspapers. Her name as printed is "Mrs Ella Hinebuck of Glasgo, Conn".

In mid June 2021 I searched Ancestry, FamilySearch, and the FamilySearch Catalog (Connecticut) for records/info re the Ella and Frank. I found Frank only in Census records. I did, however, find the date and location of Frank's death by using the online Connecticut Death Records Index. This showed he died in the town of WestThompson which is in Windham County where daughter Sadie died the prior year per her memorial.

On 22 June 2021 I ordered Frank's Death Certificate to verify the cemetery. I received the Certificate on 13 August; it confirmed he was buried in St Mary's Cemetery which I had assumed since his daughter, Sadie, was buried there about one year prior.

1900 CENSUS

The earliest record I have for Frank Heinbuch as of mid-June 2021 in the 1900 Census in which he is listed with his wife and children which include twin boys. They are living in Washington District, Alexandria County, Virginia on Millery Road:

-- Frank Heinbuch: 32, b Jun 1867, MD, parents b Germany; Occupation: Day Labor
-- Ella Heinbuch: 28, b June 1871, Virginia, Father b MD, Mother b Virginia
-- Walter W Heinbuch: 8, b Nov 1891, Virginia
-- Sadie E Heinbuch: 5, b Jul 1894, Virginia
-- John A Heinbuch: 1, b May 1899, Virginia (Twin with Frank)
-- Frank A Heinbuch: 1, b May 1899, Virginia (Twin with John)

This 1900 Census also records Frank being married to Ella for 10 years, or in 1890 which matches well with the birth of their first child, Walter, in late 1891. It also shows Ella has had 5 children of whom only 4 are living; I have not yet learned anything re the child who died.

1905 NY CENSUS

Because Frank and Ella moved to Brooklyn, NY by 1905, we have another record of Frank 5 years later. He occupation now is Gardener, perhaps the reason for the move which is about 250 miles up the eastern US coast. A daughter has been added to the family, born in NY in 1902, providing a more refined estimate of when the family moved to NY, i.e., before 1903.

-- Frank Heinbuch: 38, b US; Occupation: Gardener
-- Ella Heinbuch: 34, b US
-- Walter Heinbuch: 13, b US
-- Sadie Heinbuch: 10, b US
-- John A Heinbuch: 6, b US
-- Frank A Heinbuch: 5, b US
-- Linnie Heinbuch: 3, b US (female)

1910 CENSUS

The family makes another move North in 1910---to Connecticut. Home is now in Voluntown, New London County and Frank is working as a Gardener for a Real Estate Company. All 5 children are still at home:

-- Frank W Heinbuch: 41, b MD; Occupation: Gardener
-- Ella M Heinbuch: 39, b VA
-- Walter W Heinbuch: 18, b VA; Occupation: Cotton Mill
-- Sadie E Heinbuch: 16, b VA; Occupation: Cotton Mill
-- John A Heinbuch: 6, b US
-- Frank A Heinbuch: 5, b US
-- Linnie Heinbuch: 3, b US (female)

1920 CENSUS

This Census does not include Frank and, indeed, Ella is recorded as a Widow. The family has moved North to Windam County and is living in the town of Thompson. Since Frank died in Thompson, it seems most likely the family was already in Thompson in early 1918. Oldest son Walter is no longer living at home, which at age 28 is to be expected.

Also missing from the Census is daughter Sadie who died in early 1917. Supporting the family are the 20-year old twin sons, John and Frank, and 17-year old daughter Linnie. All three are working in a woolen mill.

Frank died in West Thompson, Connecticut at the age of 50y 8m per his Death Certificate; he had cancer.

The Death Certificate also documents his parents: Henry Heinbuck, born Germany; and Sarah Yeagal, also born Germany. Frank's wife, Mary Ella Heinbuch, was the Informant, so I believe this information is valid. I have linked Frank to his parents, buried in Virginia.

I am honored to create this Memorial for Frank Heinbuch a little over 100 years since his death in 1918.
