Algen Ivory Cheairs Sr. of Rockford departed this earthly life May 25, 2021. He was born May 12, 1950 in Hickory Valley, TN the son of Dallas Bills and Carrie Cheairs. Algen lived in Rockford 60 years coming from Tennessee. After 25 years of companionship he married the former Sheila Lambert March 27, 2021. Algen was employed as a set machine operator by Rockford Power Train 22 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He attended Auburn High School later to receive his G.E.D.

Algen leaves to cherish many loving memories his wife, Sheila; two daughters, Colette Cheairs and Shamone Bowens; two sons, Lee Wille (Helen) Alexander and Algen Cheairs Jr; 14 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Keirra Jones; 7great grandchildren; three step children, Tameka Lambert, Damarcus James and Lachanda James; father, Dallas Bills; seven sisters, Isabell (Joseph) Martin, Ruby Carnal, Peggy (Paul) Brewer, Kathy (Joseph) Rayford, Jackie Brown, Ranae Dickens, and Wilma Johnson; two brothers, Willie Preston (Jennifer) Holland and Robert Bills; mother in law Lucille Lambert; brother in law Willie Evans; a host nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including special friend, Eddie Beasley; He was predeceased by his mother, two daughters Ulisa Cheairs and Kenyetta Lamon; two grandsons, Jawan Lamon and Jamarion Alexander-Boose; great grandson, Kaleb Lofton and sister, Sadie Evans and brother Clarence Holland.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Second Christian Church 950 N. Rockton Ave. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
