On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Mardette Remington Allen, passed away peacefully at her home in Centerville, Utah. Mardette was a warm and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was born on January 11, 1942, in St. Anthony, Idaho. Mardette was the fifth child of Burdette and Martha Remington. Her early years were spent in her family's home, a converted church house in the small farming community Parker, Idaho. She was raised with her six siblings, riding horses (her favorite was an American Saddler named Old Rack), and learned to love music and dance (ballet). She enjoyed school and was a good student. Her father operated a fresh pack potato business and farms in the area. Church and friends were important in her life from the time she was a little girl.
As a teenager, Mardette was popular and fun, sporting hip short blond hair and preferring jeans or shorts. At 18, she married her high school sweetheart, Royce, and embarked on a lifelong romance which took the couple around the globe. First came California and Virginia, then Utah, where the couple settled down and built a home in Centerville in 1975. Travel was a shared passion, and they traveled the world together (Florence was a favorite spot). They also lived for multiple years in Montreal, London, DC, and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney.
Throughout her life, Mardette sang, played the piano and organ, and was a true musician. She led the choir and congregation in song, sharing her gift for over 52 years in church meetings. This was coupled with a deep and abiding love for art and art museums. She was a gifted seamstress, expertly knitting, cross-stitching, and making clothes for her children. She volunteered at the Davis County women's shelter and Davis County Board for child placement in Utah. She spearheaded our popular family-run swim school, selling out every season for a number of years. She loved to run, entering races, and even winning a few of them.
She had an appreciation for the world's natural beauty, and a special affinity for animals and plants. Australian Jacarandas were particularly beloved, as were irises and roses, which fill the yard with color each spring. She collected glass and ceramic figurines, cherishing the beauty and emotion reflected in these little works of art.
Mardette was always at her happiest when she was surrounded by family, and she will be lovingly remembered for her laughter, her sharp wit, and easy intelligence. While we are greatly saddened by this loss, we also know that she will live on in our hearts and memories, making us laugh and smile in the years to come.
Mardette is survived by her husband, Royce, and her four children Wendi, Devin (Kathy), Dixie (Kat), and Ian (Alex). Suzanne, her second daughter, passed away in 2011. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph, in Twin Falls, Idaho.
