Curtis Popplewell, 84, Independence, Mo, passed away Friday, December 18, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 21, at the Park Lawn Chapel; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Mr. Popplewell was born May 29, 1914, in Brumley, MO, and lived in the Kansas City area most of his life. He was a firefighter for Underwriters Fire Patrol and later retired as a firefighter from the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Marie Karr Popplewell, in 1973; and a grandson, Terry Popplewell.

Survivors include his son, David Popplewell, Kansas City, MO; his daughter, Marjorie Vanderpool, Independence, MO; and a brother, Tennison Popplewell, Independence, MO; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements: Park Lawn Funeral Home.
