Eula Steen, 84, Eldon, died Sunday at St. Marys Health Center. She was born Sept. 26, 1912, in Brumley, a daughter of James I. and Mary
Margaret "Molly" Meredith Popplewell. She was married April 17, 1932, in Brumley, to Waldo A. Steen, who died April 6, 1995.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eldon, where she taught the T.T.T. Sunday school class for 23 years. She moved to Eldon from Iberia
in 1972, and was a seamstress.
Other survivors include: two sons, Sherril Steen, Mt. Laurel, N.J., and James Steen Eldon; five daughters, Carol Eselman, Barnett, Janet Steen,
San Antonio, Texas, Alice Tyler, College Park, Md., Marilyn Whitaker, Iberia, and Eula Maye Bond, California; two brothers, Curtis Popplewell
and Tennyson Popplewell, both of Independence; 22 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Steen, in 1951, and by one daughter, Geraldine Atwell, in 1995.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Randall Bunch will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hickory Point Cemetery, Iberia. Visitation will be from 5-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Memorials are
suggested to First Baptist Church.
