Catherine Berberick, 97, Topeka, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Berberick was born June 7, 1907, in Willard, the daughter of Robert and Margaret McCoy Best.
She and her sisters owned and operated a company called Sisco Kids. The company handmade sculptured dolls. Mrs. Berberick was an excellent seamstress.
Mrs. Berberick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the church Altar Society.
She married Jacob G. Berberick on Aug. 24, 1926, in Topeka. He died July 18, 1992. Two sons also preceded her in death, Donald Berberick on Jan. 16, 2000, and Larry Berberick on May 21, 1999. Two grandsons, Marc Reeb and Stephen Berberick, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Bill and his wife, Helen Berberick, Topeka; Jim Berberick, Overland Park, and Joe and his wife, Linda Berberick, Boise, Idaho; four daughters, Mary Ann Belden, Overland Park, Nancy Reeb, Topeka, Marsha Bartley, Topeka, and Tressa and her husband, Tony Malecki, Topeka. Also surviving are three sisters, Marguerite Etzel, Rita Best and Rosella Applehanz, all of Topeka; 27 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. George Bertels as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Berberick will lie in state from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church, where the following rosaries will be prayed: the Altar Society at 4:30 p.m. and the Parish at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral
