Born and raised in the Mound City area, Ludwig "Louie" Sieler never moved far from his first home. He later married and raised his family close to where he had grown up, before retiring in the same community.

Ludwig "Louie" Sieler, 87, of Mound City, died Friday, Oct. 26 at Mobridge.

Louie was born Nov. 10, 1920 to Adam and Elizabeth (Klingman) Sieler on the family farm southeast of Mound City. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Sieler rural school near his home through the eighth grade.

Ludwig married Esther Naasz on Oct. 22, 1939. Following their marriage, they made their home on his parents' farm southeast of Mound City until 1951 when they moved to a farm southwest of Mound City. In 1957, they moved into Mound City and Ludwig worked for the County. Later he worked for the Game, Fish and Parks Department at Lake Hiddenwood near Selby. At the time of his death, Ludwig was a resident at the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge.

He is survived by seven daughters, Mary Thies, Rapid City, Virginia (Dale) Mayer, Selby, Lyla (Elden) Schick, Selby, Betty Prasek, Pollock, Diane (Jerry) Roemmich, Selby, Ruby (Bill) Steder, Selby, and Reta (Larry) Rossow, Herreid; special family member Flo Walker, Selby; a son, Ray (Cora) Sieler, Newton, Iowa, 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Esther in 2003, sons Wilbert and Gary, brothers Albert, Andrew and August, sisters Martha, Emma, Carolyn, Ida, Lillian, Alma and Leah.

His funeral service was Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Herreid Baptist Church in Herreid with Rev. Steve Swann officiating. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery in Herreid under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Casketbearers were Mike, Jim and Chris Mayer, Duwayne, Loren and Keith Schick, Larry Fischer and Jason Rossow.
