Mary J. Whonsetler, 90, Avilla, died September 20, 2002 in Parkview Hospital at Fort Wayne. She was born October 2, 1912 in LaOtto to Lesta and Harriet Simon. She married Merlin Whonsetler on November 25, 1931 in Kendallville. Surviving are her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Max C. and Mary Whonsetler of Avilla; a daughter-in-law, Carol Whonsetler of Avilla; 5 grandchildren, Stanley Whonsetler, Kathy Smith, Vicki Martin, Paula Zolman and Stephanie Wicker; 6 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy, on December 14, 1989; a great-grandchild; 4 brothers and a sister. A homemaker, she was a lifetime area resident and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto. Services Wednesday. Burial, Hooper-King Cemetery.
