Willis Gordon Kearl Loveland, Colorado Willis Gordon Kearl, 80, passed away, October 18, 2007 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Loveland, Colorado after a lingering illness.He was born May 11, 1927 at the family home in Round Valley near Laketown, Utah to Willis E. and Bertha Lamborn Kearl, the youngest of seven children. Gordon spent his child hood and teenage years helping with the family farm and creating happy memories with his older siblings and several neighbor friends who were near his age. He was educated at Laketown and graduated from North rich High School May 11, 1944 on his 17th birthday.

He went on to the University of Utah for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served for 18 months. Gordon then went to Utah State University and earned his B.S. and M.S. with the help of the GI Bill and AFROTC. He completed his Air Force active duty in 1953 and moved on to the University of California Berkeley and Davis to complete his doctorate in Agricultural Economics. Gordon then moved to Laramie, Wyoming, working for the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Government at a field station there to begin studying cattle ranching in the Northern Plains area. In 1962, Gordon accepted a position as a faculty member at the University of Wyoming where he continued until his retirement in 1990.

He contributed time and energy to assemble family history. He gladly shared knowledge, wit and wisdom with colleagues, family and friends. His ready smile brightened days for those who knew him. Gordon appreciated the outdoors and sought to understand the ways of nature, making a special journey to Yellowstone National Park during the time of the 1988 fires. His stories of experience were fascinating. Gordon enjoyed travel, particularly to University of Wyoming football games as far a field as Virginia and Mississippi, sharing experiences upon return. He enjoyed springtime travel to the desert Southwest, often taking in games of major league baseball teams whose spring training camps were located there. Returning from those trips, he often traveled through Utah to visit family. He enjoyed golf and regularly played Jacoby Golf Course through spring and summer months. University of Wyoming athletics were Gordon's passion. He supported the teams, attending as many football and basketball games as possible and donating what he could to support those programs. He was an ardent fan of Cowgirl basketball and could often be seen in his favorite seat watching practice sessions and was a fixture at Cowgirl and Cowboy games through each season.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Willis E. and Bertha L. Kearl, his brothers, Eldon L. Kearl and Paul E. Kearl, and sisters, Aretha Jensen, Nelda Van Vleet, Ethel Kearl (infant), Wilma Wells, and Jean Cook. "Uncle Bill" was the last of his generation on his generation in his Kearl family and will be truly missed. He is survived by his 17 nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great niece's nephews. He will rest in peace in Laketown, Utah near where he grew up. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Laketown LDS Ward Chapel in Laketown, Utah. The family will receive friends and family from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Laketown Cemetery in Laketown, Utah.
