Lyle Vernon Tilton was born 14 Mar 1885, oldest child of Elbert Harper Tilton & Margaret Williams Tilton. When he was a small child they moved to Kansas. His parents divorced and he moved with his mother to Omaha Nebraska. His mother remarried in 1998 and they moved to Oklahoma. Shortly after that he joined his father in Kansas. And in 1904 they moved to Arizona. In 1908 he married Ethel Reed. They had 2 children, Ethel Laverne Tilton (Byrum) and Oscar Emmet Tilton (Armstrong). They divorced in 1911 with Ethel taking the 2 children to Canada. In 1913 he married Ruth Goodman. They were the parent of 10 children, 2 of which died shortly after birth. Their children were, Dick Wesly, Jack Howard, Margaret Annie, Edith May, Lyle Joseph, Nora (died shortly after birth), Elbert William, Frank Vernon, Edna Ruth, David Morten (died 2 hours after birth). Lyle was known for his honesty, integrity, and high moral standards. Lyle worked @ the mines in Bisbee for a few years then he turned to farming for a few years. In 1922 the Apache Powder Plant was built and he worked there until he passed away 12 March 1945 of pneumonia in the Bisbee Arizona Hospital. He was buried on his birthday 14 March 1945 in the St David Cemetery.

"Lyle V. Tilton, St. David Pioneer, Is Taken by Death. Bisbee. March 13. Lyle V. Tillon, 60, a resident of St. David for 40 years, died at the Copper Queen hospital yesterday.
Funeral services will be held at St. David tomorrow at 4 p.m. in charge of the Hubbard-Allison mortuary.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Tilton, five sons and three daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Margaret Wilson, lives in Tucson, and one other, Mrs. Edith Ruth at St. David. Of the sons, two are in the army and serving overseas."

"Tilton Services Held yesterday In St. David. Bisbee. March 14. Funeral service for Lyle V. Tilton, long time resident of St. David were conducted at the St. David schoolhouse this afternoon at 4 o'clock with Bishop Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the St. David cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Tilton of St. David, three daughters and five sons: Edna Ruth Tilton and Mrs. Edith Ruth, both of St. David; Mrs. Margaret Wilson, Tucson; Dick Tilton, St. David; Tech Sgt. Howard Jack Tilton, U.S. Army, England; Pvt. Lyle Joseph Tilton, serving in the South Pacific; Frank Vernon Tilton, St. David; and First Lt. Elbert William Tilton who is now home on leave after overseas duty."
