Pedro “Pete” Villa Acosta, age 82 of Abilene, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021, peacefully at home with family by his side.

Pedro was born August 1, 1938 in Archer City, TX to Nick and Anita Acosta.

Pedro (also known as Pete or Wello) met and married the love of his life Mary Stokes, at the age of 14. They were married for 58 years until her passing in 2013.

Pete was a man of many talents and had the opportunity to work at various places throughout Abilene, which include Kelly Construction, Walmart, Rose and Son Construction and Goodwill.

He was an avid sports fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Abilene High Eagles. Whether he was watching them on TV or listening on the radio, he never missed a game!

He coached for Los Aguilas baseball team for many years.

Pete adored his grandchildren and often travelled to watch them play sports.

Pete is preceded in death by his wife Mary, a son, his parents, Mother-in-law Minnie “Tita” Stokes, his best friend and brother-in-law, Pat Stokes, Jr., and four siblings.

Pete is survived by his children, Amelia Rocha (Arthur), Paula Flores (Joseph), Pete Acosta Jr, Minnie Espinoza (Ricky) and Marie Leal (Roger), all of Abilene; Siblings, Linda, Nick, Francis, Irene, Jesse, Joe, Anita and Margaret; 21 grandchildren; 54 great-grandkids; 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joseph, Jonathan, Alex, Tudy, Edward, Ricky, Petie, Mikey, Billy and Jojo.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 7 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home. Rosary will be Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 7 PM in the Elliott Hamil Funeral Home Chapel, located at 5701 US Hwy 277 South. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11 AM with Father Albert Ezeanya officiating. Burial to follow at Abilene Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Elliot Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 S, Abilene, TX 79606.
