Mary A. Stokes (Honey) 69 fought a long battle of illnesses and gave it her all until God called her home on Monday January 21 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her life.

Mary was born March 25 1943 in Ballinger Texas to Nicholas and Anita Acosta. She was employed by Timex and Christ House Nursery. Mary’s passion was her family and had great faith in God. She was loving wife wonderful mother grandmother great-grandmother a caring daughter sister and aunt. She loved attending the kid’s school functions sporting events and enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers the Dallas Cowboys and Novellas. Her great cooking sweet smile bright eyes and hugs will be dearly missed. You were truly an amazing lady. May you rest in peace. We love you very much Honey!

Services will be Thursday January 24 2013 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Fred Nawarskas officiating. Burial will follow in the Abilene Municipal Cemetery under the direction of North’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday January 23 2013 from 5-6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosay at North’s Funeral Home 242 Orange Street.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-three years Pat Stokes Jr. two sons Rickey T. Stokes (Sandra) and Pat Stokes III (Tana) a daughter Peggy A. Stokes all of Abilene; four brothers Pete Acosta (Mary) Nick Acosta Jr. (Mayara) Jessie Acosta (Rosie) Joe Acosta (Olga); eight sisters Linda Garza Carmen Flores (Robert) Frances Torres (Ramiro) Irene Murillo (Benny) Anita Rios (Alberto) Margarita Canales (Guillermo) Margaret Gomez (Santos); seven grandchildren Chris Stokes Rickey Stokes Staci Stokes Allie Stokes Taylor Stokes Payton Stokes and Lauren Murray and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Margarito Acosta Sr.

Pallbearers will be Chris Stokes Rickey Stokes Taylor Stokes Payton Stokes Kendrick Murray Arthur Rocha Joseph Flores and Edward Martinez.
