Frank C. Alley

Frank Camden Alley, 88, of MacArthur, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. Born May 13, 1911, at Page, he was the son of the late John and Sarah Buckland Alley. Mr. Alley spent his childhood in Greenbrier and Fayette counties. He was a 60-year resident of Raleigh County, having lived in MacArtrhur the past 12 years. As a young man his work career began as a caddie at The Greenbrier at White Sulphur Springs. He worked 18 years in the coal industry for Sterling Smokeless and retired with 30 years of service from the Raleigh Coca-Cola Bottling Works. Still working at the age of 88, he was presently employed as a courier for Engineering Services Incorporated. Mr. Alley was the last living charter member of the MacArthur Church of God Worship Center, where he served as the church clerk for 27 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Manna Alley, in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Virgie Meadows Robertson Alley; three sons, Charles H. Meadows of Cool Ridge, Kenneth M. Alley and his wife, Margie, of Beckley, and Talmadge Alley of Beckley; three daughters, Patricia "Patty" Bennett of Boston, Nila J. Maynard and her husband, Norval, of Beckley, and Rebecca S. Williams and her husband, Charles, of Oak Hill; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a stepson, Kermit Robertson and his wife, Frances, of Cleveland, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Gladola Terry and her husband, Kendall, and Geraldine "Gerry" Terry and her husband, Norris, all of Lester; three stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a half brother, Roy Lee Alley and his wife, Sharon, of Charleston. Services will be 2 p.m. today at the MacArthur Church of God Worship Center with the Rev. Mark Schrade and the Rev. Otis Clyburn officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call from noon until time of the services today at the church. Pallbearers will be Doug Bennett, Sean Bolt, James Dunbar, Robert Blevins, Jim Elkins, Howard Earehart, James Songer Jr. and Tommy Rakes. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
