James Washington Curfman (1863-1950) was the second of nine children born to Samuel Henry Curfman and Mary Ann Cain. His older brother Pleasant Curfman took over the Curfman family farm on Cain's Run, so when James married Mary Elizabeth Conrad on January 1, 1884, they stayed at Cain's Run for a few years but by 1890 they moved to Jackson County near Frozen Camp where they lived for many years and where they raised their children. At different times they lived on Joe's Run and also Big Run. James was a tenant farmer who also did contract logging with a team of oxen. James and Mary Elizabeth had four children: Ezra (born Nov. 29, 1884), Ivey Dell (born Dec. 17, 1886), Mack (born July 27, 1888) and Rosco (born May 9, 1889). At some point probably before 1920 James left his wife and went to live in Ohio at which time his wife Mary Elizabeth moved to Parkersburg to live with their daughter Ivey. James died in Ohio and his death certificate indicates burial at Good Hope Cemetery at Cain's Run near Reedy, W. Va.
