Welton 'Bill' McCulley, 85, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Lutheran Living Senior Campus.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family is having a private service. Larry Thomas Pohren will officiate. Leslie Moore, Lisa Turnbough, and Leigh Nass will be sharing stories about Grandpa. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born on December 21, 1934, in Louisa County, the son of Glen R. and Ruth E. Cockerill McCulley. He married Donna Brown on November 21, 1955. They had 3 children, Crystal Dawn, Billy Jerome, and Steven La Vern. They later divorced. He married Marilyn Overton Stout on February 4, 1968. After 46 years of marriage, Marilyn passed on March 20, 2014. Later he married Lillie Coulter on March 12, 2016.
He worked for Sprouse's Distributing in his earlier years. Bill later worked as a forklift driver for HON Industries, retiring after 32 years. He also worked part time mowing yards, churches, and cemeteries. Bill delivered for two paper routes.
He enjoyed camping with family and friends, fishing, and crossword puzzles. Bill collected John Deere tractors. He loved chocolate candy and ice cream. Bill enjoyed time with his family and loved to tease. He had three dogs, Gypsy, Misty, and Precious, and loved to spoil them. Bill also enjoyed playing with Hope, Lillie's cat.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lillie of Muscatine; his children, Crystal D. McCulley-Parsons of Missouri, Billy Jerome McCulley of Missouri, and Stephen L. McCulley of Missouri; one stepson, David England of Florida; four stepdaughters, Lynn Pohren and her husband, Larry, of Muscatine, Kay Wessel and her husband, Bernie, of Muscatine, Diane Cady of Davenport, and Darla England, of Conesville; 23 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and his three brothers, Glenn J. McCulley, Dean McCulley of Louisa County, and Elvin McCulley and his wife, Beverly, of Tempe, Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two siblings in infancy, Mary Jane and Robert; his grandson, Nathaniel; his great grandson, Austin Walker; and his brothers, John, George, and David.
