He was the son of William Manley and Nancy Jane (Baker) Askins and married Mattie Louella Ables - 25 Aug 1920 - Lincoln Co., Tennessee. His obituaries follow:

Funeral services for J. W. Manley Askins, 65, farmer of the Mary's Grove community, were held at 10:30 Tuesday morning at Ralston Chapel , with Richard Hudson officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery.

Mr. Askins died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday morning at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County and was a son of the late Will and Nancy Baker Askins. He was a member of the Camargo Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louella Ables Askins; four sons, John W. Askins, Houston, Texas, Clifford Askins and Pat Askins, Fayetteville, and Manley Askins, Ft. Rucker, Alabama; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Pitcock, Nashville, and Mrs. Fannie Jeans, Taft; three brothers, Green Askins and Elgie Askins, Nashville, and Acie Askins of Chattanooga; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral Rites Held Here Tuesday Morning For J. W. Manley Askins, 65 --

Funeral services for J. W. Manley Askins, farmer of the Mary's Grove community, were held at 10:30 Tuesday morning at Ralston Chapel here with Richard Hudson officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery.
