Orville Phillip Boerner, 85, of the 200 block of Beechwood Ave., passed away Sept. 28, 2007, in Sentara Bayside Hospital. A native of Delano, Minn., he was the son of the late William and Mary Boerner. He retired from the U.S. Navy following 30 years of service. While serving in the Navy during World War II, Orville was stationed on the USS Croatan. He also retired from DePaul Hospital as a manager in the Dietary Department after 11 years of service. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60. Orville is survived by his wife, Delores C. Boerner; two sons, Phillip Charles Boerner and David Glen Boerner, both of Norfolk; four sisters, Adeline, Isabel, Arlene and Louise; five brothers, Clifford, Bud, Willard, Gerald Boerner and Brother Peter Claver; four sisters, Adeline, Isabel, Arlene and Louise; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy "Dee" Misiano of Norfolk. He was predeceased by a sister, Lucille; two brothers, Fred and James Boerner; and his mother- and father-in-law, Emma and Melvin Walberg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Father Tom Powers. Entombment with military honors will follow in the family mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A reception celebrating the life of Orville will follow the entombment in the social hall of the church. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. The family requests memorial contributions to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Building Fund, 6400 Newport Ave., Norfolk, VA 23505 or Alzheimer's Association, 6315 N.
